Chapter Programming

About our Windy City Programming

Programming is the “heart” of Jack and Jill. Windy City Chapter conducts its annual programming under a general five-point programmatic thrust: Social/Recreational, Cultural, Health, Education (Leadership and Financial Literacy), and Civic (Legislative and Service). Through service projects, Windy City creates a medium of contact for children to stimulate their growth and development. Through lobbying, educational programming, dissemination of education materials, and the organization of community and charitable events, Windy City Chapter has promoted the public awareness and interest of children including child development, child growth, child quality of life, and the promotion of children’s rights.

We Are One

Windy City is a “We Are One” Chapter. “We Are One” is the name that has lovingly been given to the program of diversity and inclusion. It is a program designed to promote awareness and education to its members regarding disabilities. Ultimately, it will facilitate the inclusion of all child members of Jack and Jill, even those with different abilities.

Windy City’s Year at-a-Glance

Jack and Jill Day

Jack and Jill Day began in 1948 under the direction of Dorothy Wright, our first National President. The concept was that this day would be our family round-up time. Each September, Windy City Chapter kicks off the year with family activities that bring all of our membership together after the summer break. This day highlights the social and recreational programmatic thrusts.

Carole Robertson Day

Each September, Windy City Chapter celebrates Carole Robertson Day. Carole Robertson Day is dedicated to the memory of young Carole Robertson, a member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Birmingham (AL) Chapter, who was tragically killed in the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church bombing on September 15, 1963. Carole was only 14 years of age at the time of her death. She was very active in the organization and her mother, Mrs. Alpha Robertson, served as Regional Director of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Southeastern Region.
